Azure Virtual Desktop (WVD) - How To Guide

Overview

Your team is moving ahead and is migrating away from the classic Terminal Server environment to the new "Windows Virtual Desktop" (WVD).

This moves you away from using a Windows Server operating system to using something more familiar - Windows 10!

The bonus of Windows 10 being the operating system is that majority of applications are better supported on this, which should streamline your working future.

With the change to WVD, the way you access this system has also changed.

Access - Remote Desktop Application

If your network is integrated to Intune, you should already have the new application installed on your machine. Please continue within the "Once Installed" Section.

Manual Install

If you are not within an Intune integrated device and are missing this application or you are working from home and using either Windows 7 or Windows 10, please download and install this program from here.

If you are on Mac, please download the Remote Desktop app from the App Store and within the "Workspaces tab" click subscribe. If subscribing with your email does not work, enter the workpace URL as follows: https://rdweb.wvd.microsoft.com

If you are on Windows 8, please see the "Web Access" section below.

Once Installed

Click Start and search Remote Desktop.

On first launch you will be presented with the Lets get started screen.

Click Subscribe and login with your Office 365 details - this will be the same details you use to log into your local computer. You will only need to perform this once - your account will remain subscribed on your computer.

You can now pin the remote desktop application to your task bar for quick access moving forward.

Once logged in, your new Remote Desktop will be available.

Double-click this icon, login with your Office 365 details and your new WVD will launch.

Access - Web Access

If your machine is not under Intune management or you are working from your home computer, you can access your WVD from the following URL:

Remote Desktop Web Client (microsoft.com)
