Using Duo Authentication - YubiKey Token

Introduction

Congratulations! Your company has pushed ahead of the pack and is now ensuring the security of your network with two factor authentication. That is, enforcing your users to use not only the standard username and password, but a second authentication form that cannot be obtained by hackers. This is referred to within the IT Industry as two factor authentication.

Consulting IT will have provided you a YubiKey token as your form of two factor authentication, and this guide will show you how to use this YubiKey to login to your systems.

Always Keep With You

As this token will now be your two factor authentication, you should always ensure this is on your person.

We recommend adding this to a key ring you will always have with you to ensure no matter where you are, you can login to your systems.

Plugging In

The YubiKey will need to be plugged into any available USB port on your computer.

NOTE: USB Ports on your keyboard may not be powerful enough to support the YubiKey

If your USB port is too hard to get to, please let Consulting IT know and we will can send a quote for a USB extension cable.

Confirm Working

Once you have your YubiKey plugged into a USB port, you can confirm this is working as the Yubi-touch button (the gold circle on the top of the unit) should be periodically flashing a green light.

If the unit does not flash at all, please try a different USB port.

Logging into Windows with YubiKey

When you log into a system that requires two factor authentication, your YubiKey will start flashing its green light faster.

In addition, you will receive the following prompt for your windows machine login:

Once you have this screen prompt, press your YubiKey button with a single press - you do not need to hold this at all, just a quick touch will normally be enough.

This will then fill in your two factor code into the window and automatically click the "Login" button for you to complete your login.

You have just completed your two factor authentication and can now continue working within your computer as normal!
