Overview
OneDrive now has the option to backup/protect your Desktop and Documents folders from your local computer. Normally, any files stored in these two locations was liable for data loss, as these locations are not normally part of your companies backup configurations.
OneDrive redirection ensures your documents and desktop files are protected in the cloud, along with allowing an easy transition to a brand new computer.
Login to OneDrive
1. On your local computer (that is, not on a terminal server) click start and search for OneDrive.
If this opens up a folder instead of a login prompt, you already have an account logged into OneDrive - skip to step 5 to complete the setup!
2. When prompted, enter your work email address and then your password.
3. When asked where to store your files, leave the default location and click Next.
4. OneDrive will give you a quick introduction which you can click Next through.
If prompted to setup on your mobile, click Later.
5. Once setup has completed, left click the OneDrive Icon in your taskbar.
6. Once this loads (it can sometimes take a little on the first click), select Help & Settings, and then click Settings
7. Once the Microsoft OneDrive window opens, click the Backup tab and select "Manage backup"
8. When prompted, click the "Start backup" button.
And you are done! Your desktop, documents and pictures folders are now fully protected in the Cloud, receiving regular backups.
Moving to a new work based computer will have your desktop, documents and pictures follow you via the OneDrive configuration.
